Dual Feeder Pick and Place

After the success of our previous pick and place machine, our customer came back to us to see if we could complete their process even faster. We went back to the design room and came back with a system that incorporated two Asyril 240 parts feeders with the goal of doubling our production time. The Asyril part feeders are “smart” vibratory parts feeders. They have four voice coil motors that can direct the parts in any direction for easy picking.

The best part about the Asyril 240 feeders is that they have an excellent TCP/IP messaging system that allows very easily control of the feeder from virtually any communication device. Sending it simple text commands over ethernet allows precise control over the behavior of the feeder. This was key in reaching the cycle time our customer needed.

The cameras served the dual purpose of not only identifying parts that could safely be picked by our magnetic end effector, but also eliminating large grouping of parts. If the camera notices parts are sticking together or tending towards one side of the feeder, it will send the command to break up the parts to maintain cycle time. Each feeder operates completely independent of each other so while one feeder is breaking parts up, the other can be safely picked from.
